Catching Fish in Deep Waters

The question, of course, arises out of Luke 5 where Jesus instructs Peter and some of his companions to row out into the deep and cast out their nets. Peter had “tried that and done that” and came up empty.

In fact, he had been fishing the most likely waters all night and he had come up empty. Could it be that some of us, in our willingness to connect people to Jesus, have only been fishing the most likely waters, but they are being over fished and therefore are not producing now? I don’t know, but.

Where might be the deep? Where, with Jesus guiding you and with prayerful consideration, He wants you to catch so many fish that you need to call your companion boat to help you net them all?

Could it be the women in your community that are dropping off their children at your preschool or childcare? Might these women just be interested in a Bible study or Adult Information/Pastor’s Class over a cup of Starbuck’s latte because they can’t shop or do errands three to five times a week while waiting the three hours before picking up their child again? Could the group who uses your M-W-F preschool find fellowship and growth in a class, at first, just for them, and the T-Th group another? Might each, after themselves finding great joy in learning from the Lord, be taught to pray and witness to other moms they know, and then another group be started? Would the nets begin to shred if the afternoon moms are also given a chance to gather, study, pray, converse, and build relationships?

I was just wondering about the deep and about catching fish. Oh, and by the way, I don’t think only Peter was involved in casting the net. That makes me think that there might even be a woman in your congregation that is a good fisherman to help you with the nets!
